Music Video Analysis - The Neighbourhood Sweater Weather
The Neighbourhood are part of the pop rock genre and the song I have decided to analyse is the song sweater weather from the album I Love You. in my opinion i think that the song is about a woman that the man wants but cannot have. i think that she knows he likes her and has a mutual attraction but nothing can happen between them as it could be just a summer love as the band are British and mention being on a Californian beach. some of the shots during the music video hint at this as well such as the clip of a man and a women that seem to have a one night stand, and several other shots that hint that they have to leave each other.. the first part of the music video is a blank white screen with THE NDHD written in black bold font which is the name of the band. the white screen then wipes to a pan shot with a group of lads in the penthouse. the music then kicks in with fast paced beats as cuts to a car driving down a beach road. then on every fast paced cut the screen cuts back to the penthouse location, then too the road again, then to a cut of vinyl's, then back to the penthouse and follows this pattern of cuts with other images of girls, boys playing outside, water, the beach and palm trees. when the lyrics kick text is printed on the screen in thin white font saying 'sweater weather which is the name of the song. the is a selection of shots used during the music video such as panning shot, long shot, close ups and extreme close up ups which creates a variety during the video. other techniques that I liked and stood out during the music video was the use of bokeh with light, the use of pull focus and the use of a projector. during the chorus where the speed of the song, the beats and the lyrics all sloe down which results in the shots slowing down too. the shot is of the band members in the car which is slowed down purposely to match the speed of the music and in my opinion it fits in perfectly. the is lip syncing through 20% of the song which I think matches perfectly to the song lyrics. to end the music video the screen flips and fades to palm trees, cars , the beach which is projected on top of the boys. the boys then fade away and a white house symbol comes onto the screen as the song finishes.
